Giulia Penazzi

Cosmetic chemical consultant, formulator and author

Cosmetic formulation and reading INCI ingredient lists

Portrait of Giulia Penazzi

About

Giulia Penazzi has worked in the cosmetics sector for more than twenty years. She holds a degree in Pharmacy and a PhD in Food Biotechnology, and specialised in Cosmetic Science and Technology at the University of Ferrara.

Her trade is formulation, built on long hands-on experience in the laboratory. For her, a good cosmetic starts from a solid grounding in chemistry and a broad knowledge of raw materials.

She has written eight popular-science books on skin and cosmetics, from 2003 to 2024, with a clear aim: to tell the scientific side of her work in a way that is serious and easy to follow. “Invecchiare non è una colpa” has also been translated into Polish. She writes articles on cosmetics too, both for the general public and for a scientific readership.

She also teaches. She is on the faculty of FarmacosmesiLab, ICQ’s dermocosmetics course for pharmacists, and lectures at the University of Ferrara.

Giulia Penazzi writes or approves this profile in their own language; AI translates it into the other languages.

This second edition adds a chapter on cosmetics for the skin of people undergoing cancer treatment and expands the chapters on anti-ageing and sun care.

Skin care

Who it’s for

The general public: new parents and anyone who looks after children.

A practical handbook built on a simple idea: a child’s skin has different needs from an adult’s. The first part explains how young skin works (sebum, hydration, skin flora), which cosmetics suit it best, what sunscreen filters and the numbers on the pack mean, and describes the main skin complaints. The second gathers easy-to-use tables arranged by age, from birth through the first year and on to adulthood.
